Blog 364, 2/8/17 - WWU Women Finish Sixth in San Diego

In its first tournament since returning from the winter break, the Western Washington women's team finished sixth out of 15 schools, shooting rounds of 325 (+37) and 326 (+38), at the Point Loma Nazarene University Reach played at Riverwalk GC in San Diego, CA.
The Vikings finished the 36-hole tournament at 75 over par, coming in 46 shots behind winner California Baptist.
Junior Jenn Paul began the final round in a tie for 10th place after an opening 78, but slipped into a tie for 16th at 13-over-par for the tournament after shooting 79 on Tuesday. It was her fifth top-20 performance of the 2016-17 season.
Next best Viking was Stephanie Sewell who finished tied for 31st on 162 (+18). Then came Audrey Orem (T33 on 164), Nicole Miller (T50 on 170), and Brooke Branigan (T53 on 171).
Erica Wang of Cal Baptist won medalist honors, shooting even-par 144 for the tournament.
WWU has four more tournaments before the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships are held April 24-25 at Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course in Coeur d’Alene, ID. The team will next be in action March 6-7 at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, CA.
