The host Vikings finished sixth out of 17 teams at the 45th annual Western Washington University Men's Golf Invitational which concluded yesterday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club. The home team entered the final round in third place after rounds of 294 and 279, but fell three spots with a closing 11-over 299.
WWU completed the 54 holes on eight-over 872, 14 shots behind winner the University of British Columbia (UBC) which won the event for the third time in the last four years. Chico State finished runner-up on 860 while Concordia was third on 864, and Cal State Monterey Bay and University of Victoria shared fourth on 869.
Western's Jeff Marcum and Brett Johnson finished tied for second individually after posting three-round totals of four-under 212. Michael Butler was next best Viking, coming in tied for 25th on three-over 219. Then came Ezra Arneson (T31, 221), Cody Roth (T55, 225) and Chris Hatch whose first round wasn't counted after he signed for a wrong scorecard, but whose following 72 and 76 did count toward the team score.
Simon Fraser junior Chris Crisologo shot five-under 211 (69, 69, 73) to claim individual honors by a shot over Academy of Art University's Oskar Frick.
WWU returns to action next week traveling to Chico, California for the Interwest Insurance Wildcat Classic at Butte Creek Country Club.
