The Western women's golf team slipped from fifth place to ninth on the second and final day of the St. Edward's Inivitational, played at Onion Creek CC in Austin, TX. The team struggled in cold and blustery conditions Tuesday, posting a 37-over 317 to finish the tournament on 65-over 625 - 28 shots behind the winners and four back of fifth place.
Sophomore Jenn Paul continued on from where she left off in the fall, shooting 77-74 to finish in a tie for eighth on 11-over 151 and record her fourth top-ten finish in a row. Freshman Stephanie Sewell finished T13 on 13-over (153), while Kristen Hansen (161) tied for 44th, Audrey Orem (162) tied for 48th, and Hannah Drake (163) came in tied for 51st.
“It was a rough day conditions-wise, and we just didn’t handle ourselves as well as some of the other teams,” said Bo Stephan in his 11th year as Head Coach. “We’ll be working hard on improving over the next week, and look forward to getting back on the course in early March.”
Florida Tech won the team title by ten strokes over defending NCAA Division II National Champion Indianapolis, finishing on 37-over 597. West Texas A&M’s Glory Jangthongsiri defeated Florida Tech’s Felicia Leftinger on the first playoff hole to win individual honors after both finished on six-over 146.
