Blog 298, 4/16/14 - WWU Finishes Fifth at Cal State Stanislaus Invitational

kyleschraderThe Vikings are headed in the right direction with just the conference championshp to be played before the NCAA Div II West/South Super Regional May 5-7. Yesterday at 6,641-yard Turlock CC, the team finished its regular season with a solid fifth place finish in the 41st Annual Hanny Cal State Stanislaus Invitational.
The Vikings shot a final round nine-over 297 for a 54-hole total of 891 (+27). Cal State Monterey Bay, ranked No.3 nationally in the Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, finished on 872 and won by three over No.4 rated Chico State. CSUMB’s final round one-under 287 was the best of the tournament by three shots.
Host and defending champion Cal State Stanislaus was third on 880, and Central Missouri fourth on 888.
Three Vikings finished in the top 15 individually - Kyle Schrader (above right) who tied for eighth on four-over 220, Craig Crawford, named last week's Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, who tied for ninth on 221, and Chris Hatch who was T14 on 223. The two other Vikings, Mark Strickland and Brennan Emory, finished T46 and T55 respectively.
Tying for medalist honors on two-under 214 were Cal State Stanislaus’ Trevor Clayton, and Chico State’s Lee Gearhart. Clayton was the defending champion.
