Blog 290, 10/29/13 - Hatch and Hansen Both Named GNAC Player of the Week; Rawitzer to Turn Pro

hatchThanks to a superb final-round 67 at last week's CSU Monterey Bay Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif., Western freshman Chris Hatch (right) has been named the Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference player of the week for October 20-26.
Hatch, a graduate of Kamiak HS in Mukilteo, aced the 194-yard 18th hole with a 7-iron and finished the 54-hole tournament at the 6,699-yard Black Horse GC in 12th place on three-over-par 219. He completed the fall portion of the 2013-14 season with a 76.6 average.

kristenhansenWestern's Kristen Hansen (right) was also named GNAC player of the week for October 20-26 after tieing for third at the Sonoma State Invitational at Santa Rosa GCC in Santa Rosa, Calif. Hansen, a sophomore from Spokane, shot 150 for the 36 holes, recorded her fourth top-10 finish in four outings, and won her second POTW honor of the season. She completed the fall portion of the season as the GNAC's scoring leader with a 76.1 stroke average.
In four fall tournaments, the Viking women have finished fourth at the Western New Mexico Invitational, third at the Saint Martin's Invitational, third at their own Western Washington Invitational, and fourth at the Sonoma State Invitational.

mrawitzerwhiteBellingham's Matt Rawitzer (right), who recently returned from Portugal after attempting to qualify for the European Tour, has decided the time is right to turn professional. The former Oregon State Beaver's last event as an amateur was last week's Hudson Cup in which he went 1-2-0 after losing his Thursday foursome match with partner Jake Webb against Jeff Coston and Darren Black, partnering former University of Idaho player Justin Kadin to a 3&2 fourball victory over Ryan Malby and Tim Feenstra, and going down to Coston in Friday's singles match.
Rawitzer had hoped to begin his pro career this week at the eTour's Championship @ Sunridge Canyon in Fountain Hills, Ariz. The tournament was cancelled, however, so Rawitzer now plans to make his pro debut at next week's Gateway Tour event - Fall Tournament 2 at Quintero GCC in Peoria, Ariz.

Lake Padden, North Bellingham, and Sudden Valley have all released winter tournament schedules.
