Blog 287, 10/8/13 - Bad Weather Cancels Final Round in Corning

Sustained winds of 25 miles per hour-plus had golf balls rolling off the greens and forced the cancellation of Tuesday’s final round of the Chico State InterWest Fall Classic at Sevillano Links in Corning, Calif.
WWU placed fifth with a score of 597 while host team Chico State was named the winner by virtue of its five-under-par 571 through 36 holes. The 12th-ranked Wildcats won by eight strokes over No.10 Cal State Stanislaus. It marked the second time in three years that Chico State has won its own tournament.
Chico State’s Ricky Owaki won the medalist title by three strokes on seven-under 137 thanks largely to a second-round 66.
The Vikings’ Kyle Schrader and Mark Strickland finished in a four-way tie for 12th at three-over 147. The team's three freshmen finished lower down the leaderboard - Chris Hatch T30 on 151, Brennan Emory T40 on 153, and David Fonua T48 on 155.
WWU takes a week off from competition before finishing the fall portion of its schedule with a trip to the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational on Oct. 21-22.
