Blog 283, 9/24/13 - Vikings Finish Tied Eighth

jackkellywwuDespite going into today's final round of the Viking Invitational at Bellingham Golf & Country Club with big hopes of clawing its way back into contention, Western Washington's men's team could only manage a five-over 293 for a three-round total of 893 (+29) and a tie for eighth, 26 shots behind winner, the University of British Columbia.
The one bright moment on an otherwise disappointing day for the home team was Jack Kelly's (right) four-under 68 which tied for best round of the day and gave the sophomore a tie for fourth in the individual standings on two-under 214.
Mark Strickland, the defending individual champion, had his first round 72 disqualified due to a scorecard error, and shot 74 today, while Brennan Emory had a 76 to finish tied for 31st on 227. Anthony Allen had a 75 to finish on 228 and tied for 35th, and Kyle Schrader tied for 43rd on 231.
Dixie State's Kenny You won medal honors, closing with a 69 for a 54-hole total of ten-under 206.
