Three golfers from Bellingham finished the first round of the 110th Northwest Open inside the top ten yesterday. Bellingham Golf and Country Club's Matt Rawitzer is tied for tenth after a three-under 69 on the 7,025-yard Dan Hixson-designed course at Wine Valley GC in Walla Walla; Lake Padden professional Matt Cowell continued his fine form, shooting a 68 to finish the day tied for fifth; and part of a four-way tie for the lead is Padden's Director of Instruction Luke Bennett on 67.
A little lower down the leaderboard, WWU junior Mark Strickland is T45 after a 74, and Kyle Schrader tied for 84th on 77.
Sharing the lead with Bennett are Casey McCoy, Mike Kasch, and 2011 champion Corey Prugh.
