Blog 272, 7/19/13 - Cowell Goes Low at Rosauers

mattcowellLake Padden PGA professional Matt Cowell (right) leads at the end of day one at the Rosauers Open at Indian Canyon GC in Spokane after shooting an incredible ten-under-par 61 Friday. The PGA Northwest Section's biggest tournament, the Rosauers features not only the region's best players but also consistently low scoring on the 6,255-yard Indian Canyon course. No one has gone as low as Cowell since 2007, however. Cowell, who finished tied for third at the Washington Open at Meridian Valley in May, made one eagle, nine birdies, seven pars and a single bogey, and holds a three-shot lead over Meridian Valley's Brian Thornton and defending champion David Phay of Whidbey G&CC.
Luke Bennett, also of Lake Padden, shot a one-under 70 while North Bellingham's Nathan Vickers had a two-over 73. Bellingham HS Boy's coach David Bobillot shot 75.
