Blog 270, 7/16/13 - Strickland Just Misses Out on US Amateur Spot

markstrickWestern Washington junior-to-be Mark Strickland (right) finished tied for fifth at a US Amatuer qualifying tournament held at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish Monday, shooting rounds of 73 and 74 on the 6,773-yard, Tom Fazio-designed course.
Only two players were guaranteed to progress to the US Amateur to be played at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. August 12-18 with recent BC Amateur winner and UW grad Charlie Hughes taking medalist honors on one-over 141, and Seattle's Blake Snyder earning the second spot after shooting a best-of-the-day 67 in the afternoon. Bainbridge Island's Carl Jonson (143) will be first alternate, and Mukilteo's Chris Hatch (145) second.
WWU's Kyle Schrader, also a junior-to-be, shot 156 for the 36 holes while recent grads Dylan Goodwin and Evan Needham finished on 160 and 162 respectively.
