Blog 269, 7/10/13 - Sad End for Vikings, Rawitzer at Bandon Dunes

Mark Strickland made it to the Round of 16.
A disappointing day for Bellingham's golfers at the PNGA Men's Amateur Championship at the  Bandon Dunes Golf Resort saw the two remaining Vikings - Kyle Schrader and Mark Strickland - and Bellingham's own Matt Rawitzer knocked out of the 112th playing of the event - Schrader and Rawitzer in the Round of 32, Strickland in the Round of 16.
Playing the resort's Bandon Trails course, Schrader, a junior-to-be from Olympia, went out to 16-year-old Dylan Wu after the Oregonian birdied the 18th hole to draw even then birdied the first extra hole. Rawitzer was defeated by Bandon Dunes looper Tim Tucker by a single hole. Strickland, meanwhile, won his second-round match beating Nicolas Noya 2&1, but went down 5&4 in the afternoon to Lithuanian-born University of Oregon sophomore-to-be Sulman Raza.
The eight players remaining in the competition are Raza, WSGA Men's Amateur champion Cameron Peck, UNLV's Carl Jonson who beat Tucker 2&1 in the Round of 16, the University of Washington's Kyle Bowser, Mercer University's Hans Reimers, College of the Canyon's Riley Hayfield, BYU's Justin Keiley and USD's Alex Chiarella.
