Western Washington's near perfect spring continued this morning when it was announced senior Jake Webb had been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and that head coach Steve Card had won the Coach of the Year award.
The recognition comes on the heels of the Viking's 16-shot victory in the conference championship at Coeur d'Alene yesterday when Webb took medalist honors following a play-off with Dylan Goodwin.
Webb finished the GNAC season with a leading 73.3 scoring average, followed closely in second place by Mark Strickland on 73.7, and Goodwin in third on 74.1. All three were named first-team conference all-stars along with senior Evan Needham. It is the third time Goodwin has earned the honor, and the second for Webb.
Coach Card won the GNAC Coach of the Year award for the sixth straight year following six straight GNAC conference titles.
The Vikings are now second in the West Region and eighth nationally in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Poll. WWU, which has won three of its last four tournaments, next competes in the NCAA II West/South Central Regional at The Home Course in Dupont from May 6th to the 8th.
