Rounds of two-under 286 and three-over 291 saw the Western Washington men's team finish day one of the Cal Baptist Men’s Golf Invitational Tournament in second place, four shots behind leader Chico State.
Three team members are in the top ten on the individual leaderboard with Mark Strickland leading the way for the Vikings after shooting 70, 71 (141, -3) on the 7,377-yard Champions Course at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, Calif., 35 miles west of Palm Springs. In fourth place with a round to go, the sophomore from Mukilteo is five behind leader Lee Gearhart of Chico State.
Western's Dylan Goodwin is a shot behind Strickland in fifth, Jake Webb is three back in a tie for seventh, Kyle Schrader is T18 on 149, and Evan Needham tied for 22nd on 150.
