Blog 236, 9/18/12 - Aerification Not Required this Fall at Lake Padden

Lake Padden's greens; better than ever?
Lake Padden announced yesterday the greens are in such good condition they will not require a major aerification in October. Superintendent Scott McBeath says he will deep-tine and add a little sand in the first week of the month, but extracting the ⅝" lugs that usually hamper so many rounds at this time of year will not be necessary, meaning minimal impact to golfers.
By removing thatch in the Spring and verti-cutting more than usual during Summer, McBeath says the greens are perhaps the best they have been for years. "I aerified the greens in the Summer but no one knew I was doing it," he adds. "And we took out all the thatch material in April rather than doing it twice during the year. It allowed us to keep the course operating at full capacity throughout the year, and I'm obviously very pleased with the results."

Congratulations to James Fox and Shane Clark who won last weekend's Two-Man Shamble at Lake Padden with a Gross 147. Dean Carpenter and Gary Bring won the Net prize on 134. The next event is the ever-popular Three-Ring Circus on Saturday 29th.
