2008 Western graduate Sean Packer will play alongside Tom Brandes and Michael Haack at this year's USGA Men's State Team Championship which begins at Galloway National GC in Galloway, NJ tomorrow and runs until Friday. The three man team was selected based on standings on the WSGA Performance Points List, compiled over the last two years (August 1, 2010 – August 1, 2012).
Packer, from Seattle, has developed into one of the best mid-amateur golfers in Washington, finishing runner-up at this year's Washington State Men’s Champion of Champions, runner-up at last year's Washington State Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, tieing for third at the 2012 and 2011 PNGA Publinks, and qualifying for this year's US Publinks in Utah.
52 teams are entered into the championship (all 50 States plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico). Eighteen holes of stroke play are scheduled for the three days of competition with the two lowest of the three individual scores counting as the team’s score for the round.
