Rick Weihe, a member of Bellingham Golf and Country Club, is through to the US Senior Amateur Championship after finishing second at an 18-hole qualifying tournament held Thursday at Broadmoor GC in Seattle.
Weihe, the 1970 Washington State Amateur champion and '98 WSGA Senior Amateur champion, shot a five-over 75, that included three birdies, five bogeys and a triple-bogey, on the 6,338-yard layout to finish two shots behind Gig Harbor's Jim McNelis and two clear of Milton's David Talcott who beat Larry Gilhuly and Michael Jonson in a playoff for the third qualifying spot with a birdie at the first extra hole.
The US Senior Am will be played at the Donald Ross-designed Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey from September 29 to October 4. Weihe will be making his second appearance having reached the Round of 32 in 2004.
