Blog 230, 8/2/12 - Rawitzer Misses Out on US Amateur Qualification

rawitzerNeeding to finish in the top three to qualify for the US Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills CC in Denver, CO in two weeks' time, Bellingham's Matt Rawitzer (right) finished tied for sixth at yesterday's qualifier at the RMG Club at Oakbrook.
After a morning round of level-par 70, Rawitzer was only three off the lead held by Bellevue's Michael Haack, Woodinville's Jarrett Foote and Spencer Weiss from Sammamish. An afternoon 72 saw the Oregon State golfer and former Squalicum HS team member finish on two-over 142 and three shots behind Jarred Bossio who qualified in third place. Foote (138), and medalist Haack (137) also progressed.
Former WWU Viking Sean Packer finished tied for tenth on 143, while current Vikings Dylan Goodwin (T26 on 147), Sandy Vaughan (T29 on 148), and Mark Strickland (56th on 157) finished well down the leaderboard. Former WWU player Brian Barhanovich was tied for 61st and Nick Varelia withdrew.
