Blog 215, 6/20/12 - Goodwin Named Third-Team All American, Again; Varelia Given Honorable Mention

dylangFor the second straight year, WWU junior Dylan Goodwin (right) has been named a third-team NCAA Division II PING All-American. Goodwin led the Vikings with a scoring average of 72.5 strokes per round during the 2011-12 season. Last year, in addition to third-team status, the Kamiak High School product earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and GNAC Newcomer of the Year accolades.
Meanwhile, Nick Varelia, a senior from Kent who averaged 72.9 strokes and was the 2011-12 GNAC Player of the Year, was given an honorable mention by the Golf Coaches Association of America which names the golfers achieving All-American status.
Both players were first-team GCAA PING West Region all-stars this spring, Goodwin for the second time. They were also first-team GNAC all-stars, Varelia for the third time, Goodwin for the second.

Golf Today NW Magazine will be holding its second annual North Bellingham Classic at North Bellingham GC on Monday July 9th.
