Blog 205, 5/20/12- Cowell Tied Third at Washington Open Pro-Am

mcowell175Lake Padden PGA apprentice Matt Cowell (right) is tied for third following Saturday's first round of the Washington Open Invitational's Korey Pro-Am, shooting a three-under-par 68 on the 6,525-yard, Al Smith-designed Glendale CC course in Bellevue. Luke Bennett, fresh off his fine performance in US Open local-qualifying on Thursday, shot 69 and is tied for eighth. Tacoma's Derek Barron led after round one carding a six-under 65.
The Washington Open Invitational itself begins Monday morning. Lynden's Tim Feenstra, who now works at the Broadmoor GC in Seattle, is the defending champion having beaten PGA Tour player Michael Putnam by seven shots in last year's event.
