Blog 204, 5/19/12 - Rawitzer Excels in Palo Alto

mattrawHis team may not have advanced to the NCAA Division I National Championship, finishing seventh at this week's Stanford Regional when only the top five made it through, but Bellingham's Matt Rawitzer (right) should be well pleased nonetheless. With rounds of 73, 65 and 68 today on the 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course, the former Squalicum HS player completed the tournament on four-under-par 206 and in a tie for tenth in the individual standings. Despite being listed as his team's No. 5, Rawitzer finished four in front of the next best Beaver, Nick Chianello.
Oregon State posted a three-round total of one-under 839, four back of fifth-placed UCF. California won the title on 25-under 815. Medalist was Pepperdine's Josh Anderson who played as an individual. The Wave senior shot 14-under 196 to win by two from San Diego State's JJ Spaun.
