Best of the season T4 for Craig Crawford.
The Vikings could do nothing about CSU Stanislaus at the Jim Hanny Invitational this week. Despite three of its team members finishing in the top four, Western still finished the team event second, a whopping 23 strokes behind the hosts who posted an incredible three-round total of 19-under 845 in capturing their sixth victory of the season. The winning total broke Stanislaus's own tournament record by 16 shots.
Ranked No.7 in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, WWU shot a final-round one-over par 289 to finish the tournament on 868. Chico State came in third on 872.
“Cal State Stanislaus is a quality team and, on its home course, very tough to beat,” said WWU coach Steve Card whose team was second by six shots after the first round and by 11 after the second. “Overall I’m pleased with our performance as we beat some good teams, and I’m encouraged by our continued improvement.”
The trio of Vikings in a seven-way tie for fourth on one-under 215 were Dylan Goodwin, Craig Crawford, and Nick Varelia whose closing 69 saw him jump ten places up the leaderboard.
Sandy Vaughan placed 38th on 224, and Jake Webb tied for 52nd on 228.
Trevor Blair from CSU Stanislaus took medalist honors at seven-under 209, winning by four strokes after shooting a final round 66. Tying for second at 213 were Hawaii-Hilo’s James Hall and Chico State’s Kyle Souza.
WWU goes for its fifth straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference title on Apr. 23-24 at Coeur d’Alene, Id.
Scores here.

Congratulations to Aerotech Golf Shafts and the winner of last week's RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Carl Pettersson whose 4-iron was fitted with a SteelFiber shaft.
