Blog 193, 4/3/12 - Vikings Tie for Sixth in Florida

dylangYou get the sense WWU is close to something special. Since returning from the Christmas break, the team has finished fourth, second and this week, at the Barry Buccaneer in Miami Shores, Fla., tied for sixth with three team members beating the Par of 71 on the 6,805-yard Normandy Shores Course in Miami Beach, Fla., in today's final round.
“We had a decent day,” said WWU coach Steve Card. “With those three sub-par scores we shot even-par which is respectable. We were very close to having a good day, but the guys battled and it was a very good event for us. Hopefully we can continue to grow.”
The team finished on 11-over 863, tied with Florida Tech and 22 shots behind winner Barry which won its own event by four shots over Laval from Quebec, Canada.
Junior Dylan Goodwin (right) shot a two-under 69 Tuesday to finish eighth in medalist play with a 54-hole total of four-under 209. He finished three shots out of first place shared by Nova Southeastern's Ricardo Celia and Oscar Lengden, and Lynn's Marcelo Rozo.
Also representing the Vikings were Jake Webb who tied for 26th on 217, Craig Crawford who finished in a tie for 33rd on 218, Nick Varelia who was named last week's GNAC Player of the Week following his tied for third in Arizona but tied for 38th this week on 219, and Brian Barhanovich whose struggles continued (the senior from Everett is averaging 76.93 this season) with a 54-hole total of 13-over 226 and a tie for 63rd.
