Blog 180, 12/3/11 - Gebhardt Struggles on Legends Course Again, but Survives 72-Hole Cut

Jessi Gebhardt - tied for 38th with a round to go.
It would be fair to suggest Bellingham's Jessi Gebhardt prefers the Rees Jones-designed Champions Course to the Arthur Hills-designed Legends Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, FL, venue for this week's LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.  While the former Bellingham High School student has posted a 71 and 70 on the wide-open Champions, she shot a six-over 78 on the tricky Legends on Thursday and today could do little better posting a 77 that might well have been a lot worse after an outward 41. To her credit though, Gebhardt regrouped on the back nine, carding an even-par 36 that included a birdie three at the demanding final hole.
Despite today's disappointing score, Gebhardt is still inside the top 40 who will earn LPGA Tour membership for 2012 (top 20 earn full status). Currently tied for 38th with 14 other players on eight-over 296, she can't afford many mistakes tomorrow, but the fact the final round will be played on the Champions Course surely bodes well.
Scores here.
