Blog 177, 11/19/11 - Killmer's Hopes Vanish After 77

chriskillmerChris Killmer's long road to the PGA Tour appears to have come to an end. A third-round five-over 77 in second stage qualifying at Bear Creek GC in Murrieta, Calif., Friday saw the Canadian Tour player fall back into a tie for 45th on five-over 221. Now seven shots out of the top 19 and ties who will make the field for PGA West the week after next, Killmer (right) will need a sensational final round today to have any hope of advancing.
After reaching the turn in one-over 37 with two birdies and three bogeys, Killmer needed a great back nine to get back into contention, but made three bogeys, a double at the 15th and just one birdie at the 210-yard 12th for an inward 40.
Daniel Summerhays retained his five-shot lead with a three-under 69 that put him on 16-under 200. Second is Aaron Watkins whose third-round 63 was low round of the week thus far.
