Blog 148, 8/1/11 - Rawitzer Misses Out on US Amateur Place

aldaraMatt Rawitzer's busy summer continued today with a 36-hole US Amateur qualifier at the Members Club at Aldarra (right) in Fall City. But with rounds of 73 and 75, he missed out on a playoff for the third qualifying spot by four shots. A two-over 73 in the morning was followed by a four-over 75 this afternoon, giving him a total of 148 on the 6,759-yard Par 71 Tom Fazio-designed course which was four more than Bainbridge Island's Austin Hurt who earned the third qualifying spot. The first two players to qualify were recent UW graduate Tze-Huang Choo of Singapore who shot 72-68, and UW junior Charlie Hughes of Vancouver BC who was a shot behind after a 70 and 71.
Former Viking Sean Packer was just two away from a playoff for the third qualifying spot finishing on 146, while Western junior Sandy Vaughan finished on 147. Incoming sophomore Broc Johnson was a further shot back, and Red Shirt freshman Mark Strickland was on 152. Last year's Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year, Dylan Goodwin, finished down the pack on 156, and incoming sophomore Dylan Stensland finished on 158. Sophomore Craig Crawford wound up on 167, and former Viking Jesse Bibee on 174.
