Blog 142, 7/15/11 - Bellingham Hopes at PNGA Men's Amateur Come to an End with Rawitzer and Vaughan Defeats; Needham Shoots 69 at Rosauers

Bellingham's last involvement at the PNGA Men's Amateur Championship being played at Tetherow GC in Bend, OR., came to an end yesterday when home-grown talent Matt Rawitzer went out in the Round of 16 to Tyler Raber of El Macero, CA., and Western junior Sandy Vaughan, a native of Seattle, lost in the same round to Chad Vivolo of Carmel, CA.
Rawitzer, who finished runner up in strokeplay qualifying, went down 2&1 playing the 17 holes of the match in level fours while Vaughan was comprehensively beaten 6&5 after playing his scrappiest golf of the week.
In the morning, Rawitzer had beaten Scott Kim at the fourth extra hole; Vaughan, Eric Grimberg 3&2.
Tournament favorite Chris Williams went out in the Round of 32, beaten 1up by Oregon's Bobby Monaco.

eneedhamIn today's first round of the Rosauers Open at Indian Canyon CC in Spokane, Western junior Evan Needham (left) shot a stirling two-under 69 to finish the day tied for 30th and ahead of many of the region's top professionals. Bellingham HS boy's coach David Bobillot shot a 73, Keith Henderson who moved from Loomis Trail to Shuksan GC recently shot 74, and North Bellingham's Nathan Vickers had an 83. Leading, after tearing round the 6,255-yard Chandler Egan-designed course in nine-under 62, are Darek Franklin, Chris Everson, and Jerry Johnson.
