Blog 141, 7/13/11 - Rawitzer Charges into Round of 32

Matt Rawitzer beat Portland's Johnny Miller 5&4 in today's Round of 64 at the PNGA Men's Amateur Championship, being played at Tetherow GC in Bend, OR. The Oregon State junior-to-be was one-over-fours when he holed a putt for a three on the 190-yard 14th to finish the match. It was Miller who struck first, however, winning the 2nd with a four. Rawitzer bounced back with a win at the 4th and, after taking the 5th as well, never looked back taking the 9th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes. In tomorrow's Round of 32, he faces Richland's Scott Kim who will play alongside Rawitzer at Oregon State beginning in the fall.
WWU's Sandy Vaughan is also through to the next round after beating Cody Thompson of Chico, CA  3&2. The Viking junior-to-be was never down in the match, going 2up after three, and deciding the tie with a stellar three on the 476-yard 16th. Sadly, Vaughan's Western teammates Dylan Goodwin and Sam Ayotte both went out, Goodwin on the 19th hole to California's Jamie Core, Ayotte by 5&4 to Utah's Zac Blair.
