Blog 137, 7/8/11 - Gebhardt Shoots Successive 82s in Colorado, Rawitzer closes with 78 at Sahalee

Jessi Gebhardt; 164 after 36 holes.
Even though the second round of the US Womens Open at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO., is far from over (more than 60 players have yet to start it, in fact), it's probably safe to say Bellingham's Jessi Gebhardt will not make the field for the final two rounds. One of only 33 players to have completed 36 holes (because of yesterday's lightning storm which saw played halted at 12.47pm and called shortly after 3pm), Gebhardt is on 164 (+22) - 26 shots behind leader I.K. Kim who has four holes of her second round remaining.
Gebhardt made a disastrous start to her second 18, opening with a double-bogey and following with three straight bogeys. She parred nine of her next 11 holes, but closed with two bogeys and a double at the last.
Glancing at the stats, it's not difficult to see which parts of Gebhardt's game let her down. She averaged a very impressive 286.8 yards off the tee during her two rounds, but found just 13 of 28 fairways - 46%. Because of that, she was able to hit just 50% of the greens in regulation and, despite being particularly happy with her putting heading into the event, struck a total of 73 putts, averaging 2.03 per hole.

Matt Rawitzer, meanwhile, closed his first Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee CC with a six-over 78 that saw him fall down the leaderboard into a tie for 38th on 15-over 303. UW's Chris Williams won the tournament with a final-round 73 and 72-hole total of one-under 287.
