Blog 136, 7/8/11 - Gebhardt Struggling at the Broadmoor, Rawitzer Moving Up at Sahalee

jessigAt the US Women's Open, being played at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO, Bellingham's Jessi Gebhardt sat most of Thursday out, enduring a weather suspension that began at 12.47pm and lasted the rest of the day. Gebhardt had begun her round just 55 minutes before the horns sounded, and had to return to the course early this morning. Sadly, after parring her first thee holes, she couldn't get into gear making three bogeys and a double to turn in 40. On her back nine (the course's front side), the 25-year-old former Bellingham High School golfer made four more bogeys and a double for a round of eleven-over 82. After a quick turnaround, she bogeyed the first four holes of her second round, and right now stands at 17-over-par.

After a disappointing opening round, Matt Rawitzer scrambled his way back up the leaderboard at the Sahalee Players Championship Thursday, shooting 76 in the morning and 73 on a very tough afternoon for scoring - when the field averaged 75.8 - to move 14 places up the leaderboard into a tie for 27th on 225 (+9) through 54 holes. Leading on two-under 214 was Chris Williams of Moscow, ID. The University of Washington sophomore shot 73, 71 to move one clear of California's Michael Kim who shot a brilliant third-round 69, the joint best score of the afternoon.
