Matt Rawitzer, who recently transfered from the University of Idaho to Oregon State University, shot a first-round 76 in the prestigious Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee CC in Sammamish Wednesday, ending the day tied for 1st eight shots back of leader Beau Hossler of Mission Viejo, Calif.
After finishing a solid fourth at the Washington State Men's Amateur Championship two weeks ago, Rawitzer was no doubt hoping to get off to a better start this week. But he opened with n equally disappointing 74 at McComick Woods and rebounded with a 70 so he is certainly capable of moving up the leaderboard tomorrow, against a quality field that includes UW standouts Charlie Hughes and Chris Williams, incoming UW freshman Cheng-Tsung Pan, 2010 PNGA Player of the Year Eugene Wong, Seattle veteran Erik Hanson, the Washington State men's champion and former Idaho teammate Jared Bossio, PNGA Mid-Am champion Dan Whitaker, Pacific Coast Amateur champion Andrew Putnam, and a host of other world-ranked amateurs.
