Goodwin; purple patch continues.

Dylan Goodwin is maintaining the rich vein of form he has enjoyed for most of the year. Recently named a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II PING third-team All-American, the Western sophomore currently shares the lead at the Washington State Men's Amateur Championship being played at McCormick Woods on the Olympic Peninsula. Rounds of 69 and 68 saw the Greater Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and GCAA PING West Region all-star complete the first 36 holes (36 to go) on seven-under-par and tied with Andrew Perez of Olympia.
Bellingham native Matt Rawitzer (profiled here), and Western's Sandy Vaughan are tied for sixth seven shots back. Former Viking Sean Packer is tied for 15th on 145. James Hiester, the former BHS player who just finished his freshman year at Rice University, is on 153; Jesse Bibee is on 156 while Bryant D'Hondt is four shots further back. Steven Rose is on 166, and Morgan McGowan 172.
Western's Claire Rachor and Kara Zitzman, and Bellingham's Karly Olsen (a junior at Saint Martin's University in Lacey) each shot eight-over 80s on the Home Course in Dupont to finish the first day of the Washington State Women's Amateur Championship tied for 20th.
