WWU's Patrick Boag and Craig Roth who plays at the Country Club came up a little short of advancing to the US Amateur Championship today, Boag finishing three shots out of the top six who advanced from a Home Course qualifying tournament, Roth four.
Boag, originally from Yakima and about to begin his senior year as a Viking, tied for 14th after shooting a second round 77 for a two-round total of 146. Roth, from Canada but now resident in Bellingham, had a 76 for a three-over 147 total and a tie for 18th. BC's Eugene Wong and Sammamish's Kevin Penner, who both shot 143, were the fifth and sixth players to qualify. Jarred Bossio, Cory Renfrew and Cameron Peck also made it through, as did Bainbridge Island's Carl Jonson who won the event with a seven-under-par total of 137.
