Matt Rawitzer's challenge for the PNGA Mens Amateur Championship ended yesterday with a 3&1 defeat to Victoria's Kevin Carrigan. Rawitzer, who plays for the University of Idaho, started well going 2up after four, but 24-year-old Carrigan who plays college golf for UNLV won the next two holes to take the match back to all-square.
Carrigan took the lead at the 9th but Rawitzer redressed the balance with his second two of the day, at the 11th. Carrigan then came right back winning the 12th, but Rawitzer made a three at the 491-yard 14th to square this exciting, back and forth encounter. It was at the 15th that Carrigan took control, however, winning the next three holes to earn a place in the Round of 16.
