Matt Rawitzer beat the host town's Craig Doell in the first round of the PNGA Mens Amateur Championship at Royal Colwood GC in Victoria yesterday. The Bellingham player went two down after four holes and was still one down as he stood on the 15th tee. He won that hole, however, to get the match back to all square then won both the 17th and 18th with par fours. He plays another Victoria man, Kevin Carrigan, in today's second round.
Sadly Matt Cowley went out, beaten on the last hole by Alberta's Shane O'Neill.
