Sahalee will favor Fred Funk's accuracy.
The US Senior Open is  coming to Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish (about 90 miles south of Bellingham and 15 miles east of Seattle) July 29th - August 1st. Fred Couples will be making his debut in the event and will be joined by Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Mark O'Meara, Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin, Mark Calcavecchia, and defending champion Fred Funk among other stars from the past.
Sahalee is, of course, where Vijay Singh won the 1998 PGA Championship by two shots from Steve Stricker, and where Aussie Craig Parry won the 2002 NEC Invitational by four over Funk and Robert Allenby.
I played the course last month and came away thinking that while Funk will certainly have an advantage finding the wickedly narrow fairways with his arrow-straight drives, he certainly (okay, probably) won't be shooting the 268 (-20) he posted at Crooked Stick in Indiana last year.
It's going to be a great event and we are fortunate to have this opportunity to watch these great players (twice in a month with the Boeing Classic at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge Aug 27th - 29th). The USGA has put together a number of attractive ticket packages which you'll find on the other side of the ad.
If I don't see you before, I'll see you at Sahalee.
