First Tee Coming to Bellingham

Phil Gaggero at Lake Padden tells me the First Tee is coming to Bellingham - possibly the best news I've heard all year.

For those who don't know, the First Tee is a non-profit organization set up by the World Golf Foundation in 1997 and supported by Augusta National Golf Club, the PGA of America, the United States Golf Association (USGA), the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the PGA Tour. Former President George H. Bush serves as Honorary Chairman.
The organization's two main goals are to give youngsters the opportunity of playing the game and also instill positive charaterstics such as honesty, integrity, respect, confidence and responsibility which it does through the First Tee Life Skills Experience.
I volunteered for the First Tee of Greater Seattle about seven years ago and, because of my background as a golf teacher, Gordy Graybeal the Chapter's Director of Golf allowed me to help the kids with their short games as well as just hang out with them. It was great fun and I'm excited for my five-year-old son to meet Phil and get involved with the First Tee program as I have seen first hand the benefits it can have. 'We have been approved as a program affiliate for the First Tee,' says Phil. 'We're currently finalizing the schedule for the 2010 season and will be offering classes for kids ages 5-18.'
More information to come as I get it.
